Here are some photos of a beautiful area of Greece in the North. The peninsulas of Kassandra and Sithonia. Sithonia is much less commercialised than Kassandra but there are still plenty of deserted places to get lost in. I have never been to the third peninsula of Athos which is a working monastery not open to the general public. I have seen the big mountain in the distance though!
These pictures were taken in Crete in July 2017 mainly near Elounda and the fascinating “hippie” beach of Matala which is commemorated in a song by Joni Mitchell. In the 60s people lived in the caves and were part of a genuine “alternative” society. It is much more commercialised now, and you have to pay to visit the caves. It still retains much of it’s charm though and is a lovely place to visit.
